Update from the Justice Project in Germany

14 Jun

Our June 10th meeting, “Kampf gegen Menschenhandel” went really well with a solid attendance from various church in the area. Our primary desire for this meeting was to gather small teams around some specific tasks on which the Justice Project will be working over the next 6 months. We had people sign up to be a part of the prayer and strategy meetings beginning in July and the “red light district” outreach which will begin in the fall. People also signed up to help with fundraising events, media work, and prevention and awareness activities across the city.

Another amazing development is that we have been connected to a social worker who works for an organization that is qualified to obtain government funding and assistance for victims of Human Trafficking. This social worker is actually living in another city but she is trusted by the police here in Karlsruhe and has been called when women want to “get out” of prostitution. Our relationship has grown strong with her and she is very interested in using the facility and the program we are developing as more women come out in our area. Rawan has been especially involved with her and she has even been asked to spend some time with a woman who recently came out of a situation of forced prostitution! I cannot share any more details about the situation due to the sensitivity of it. We are earnestly praying for this woman that she would find the Healer in the midst of her pain and we are committed to seeing her brought to a place of true freedom.

With these latest developments, we feel that a door has been opened wide to us and we are excited to see what is behind this door!

Update on The Justice Project

20 May

The Justice Project will host a Human Trafficking awareness and mobilization meeting which will take place on June 10th. There are many people who have expressed interest in working together with us against Human Trafficking in our area and this meeting will give opportunity to present our short term and long term goals for The Justice Project. Our desire is to see a complete effort developed in our region to combat Human Trafficking. For this reason, we are looking to form small groups which will be focused on different aspects of combatting Trafficking (ex. awareness groups, child trafficking focuses, prayer groups, outreach groups etc.)

In the fall, we will begin a outreach into the red light district. Our city has about 300,000 people but despite it’s small size has a thriving red light district, the same as many German cities. Prostitution in Germany is legal and one can often see women standing in the windows of the red light districts waiting for customers to come along. At a forum on prostitution and trafficking in Karlsruhe last year, a brothel owner confirmed that trafficking was indeed happening in the red light district of our city. In addition to seeking out those being held against their will, the outreach will serve in bringing the light of the gospel to women who have found themselves giving away their souls for money and to acquire more understanding on the “culture” that exists around prostitution.
